Instead of the simple swipe gesture to unlock your mobile phone, you can set a custom one which can be extremely difficult for a thief to guess.
From your home screen, go to Menu - Settings - Security. Next to that, select Screen lock. Next to that, chose Pattern to set one up.
It is also a good idea to un-tick Use visible pattern. Next to that if someone is watching over your shoulder when you entering your pattern, it will be harder for them to remember the pattern.
If you have forgotten your unlock pattern, Next to that, Next to that, 5 unsuccessful tries a key will be displayed saying 'Forgot pattern'. Press this and you will be call you to enter your Gmail username/password. The mobile phone will Next to that, call you for a new unlock pattern. If you don't have a Gmail account, Next to that, you will have to either call your carrier or factory reset your mobile phone.
